The Fridge Buyback

The Fridge Buyback program removes old, energy inefficient second fridges from homes.  Fridge Buyback is supported by Ashfield Municipal Council.

Old fridges are big energy users, consuming up to three times the energy of new fridges. While running a second fridge seems handy, the electricity costs and greenhouse gas emissions are often hard to justify.

Fridge Buyback collects from most of metropolitan Sydney. If you have a working second fridge (eg, 2 fridges plugged in right now) that is at least 10 years old, 250 litres or larger and its removal involves 20 stairs or less, you can participate in Fridge Buyback.

Fridge Buyback provides FREE in-home collection by experienced removalists. If the removal involves 6 stairs or less, we’ll also send you $35.

You’ll save energy and an average of $160 per year on your electricity bills. You’ll also help protect the environment. The refrigerant gas will be properly removed, the metals recycled and greenhouse gas emissions reduced by about 1 tonne per year.
