Priorities:
I was elected to Council in 1991 after a long and bitter dispute with a previous Council over plans to develop Summer Hill Car Park in a gross and excessive style. I still oppose incompatible development on and around Summer Hill car park.

As a member of the Labor Party, I advocate modest and appropriate development in residential areas and underground access to Summer Hill Railway Station.

The expansion of Kingsford Smith Airport by Governments of any persuasion is a polluting and unhealthy folly. In the aftermath of September 11, the retention of a major airport in the vicinity of large residential areas is foolhardy and dangerous.

I have been a major supporter of RATTS, a community group which lobbied successfully to stop Orange (Hutchison Electronics) from erecting mobile telephone towers on a heritage building within a densely populated residential area adjacent to Summer Hill Public School.

As a teacher of history at nearby Dulwich High School, I joined with my colleagues in demonstrating against the closure of the School. An equitable and fair public education system is essential for our democracy, which is under threat by the inequitable policies of various Governments. The sale of public assets for short term gain is poor economics, poor Government and poorer us.

Literary and political interests are not mutually exclusive. I have written a number of novels, short stories, reviews and poems. I retain a sense of humour and do my best to listen. Because it is better for all concerned to state clearly what they believe, and act accordingly, I dislike pompous windbags.
