New penalties for parking offences now apply

Ashfield Council wishes to advise residence of the following new fines and demerit points for parking offences, as notified by the RTA, effective 1 July 2008.

Many of the changes have been made to align with the safety related seriousness of the offence.

New penalties include:

Stop on or near pedestrian/children's marked crossing/school zone $324 fine and 2 demerit points

Disobey no stopping sign $189 fine

Stop within 10m of an intersection without traffic lights $189 fine

Stop in bus zone $189 fine

Stop in taxi zone $135 fine

Double parking $189 fine

Not parallel park in direction of travel $135 fine


Street Lighting

Street lighting is installed and maintained by Energy Australia. All reports of street lights not working should be referred directly to them by telephoning 1800 044 808.

Requests for additional lighting on public land such as roads, footpaths, and traffic facilities must be made in writing to Council and include the accurate location of the requested lighting and reason for request.

Council can then ask Energy Australia to consider the request.

Alcohol Free Zones

Alcohol free zones are located at the following locations:

Hercules Street and Brown Street, Ashfield from the taxi rank to the railway bridge at Bland Street.
   
Ashfield Mall Forecourt
   
Civic Centre forecourt in front of Council's Administration Building.
   
Summer Hill Plaza, bounded by Lackey Street and Hardie Street.
   
Summer Hill Shopping Centre.
   
Summer Hill Carpark area.
   
Darrell Jackson Gardens Summer Hill
   
The Esplanade to and including Markham Lane.
