Clr Alex Lofts Council Ward: East 27 Kensington Road Chairperson: Community Services Committee, Sustainable Asset Management Committee In that time he has been active in resident action groups and community sports clubs and hopes to bring some of this experience to his duties as a Councillor. He finds living the municipality more than just enjoyable and hopes that the cultural and social diversity of the area continues. As a Labor Councillor, Alex believes that he follows a long tradition of distinguished service by others. Similarly, he adheres to certain core values, such as social justice and inclusiveness, working for quality services, responding to the needs and concerns of residents, planning for and improving community assets, such as cycle ways and sports facilities, the new Civic Centre (with a library that serves contemporary needs) and the upgrading of the Ashfield aquatic centre. He believes any development must be in keeping with the village atmosphere of the ward. Alex has strong environmental interests and will work for the maintenance, improvement and extension of open space and greenery in East Ward. As he and his family have chosen to live in an individually listed heritage house, he understands the demands and even frustrations that arise from that responsibility but he will fight for heritage values. His priorities are to follow through on those issues which were part of his election campaign: the reinstatement or establishment of public transport for residents who need this service; keeping residents informed about changes to the Allied Mill site; lobbying hard for the extension of light rail and the Greenway project; setting up a system of ongoing consultation with the community, including the seeking of solutions to parking and traffic problems. In order to achieve his objectives, Alex recognises the need to work closely with his Labor colleagues, as well as helping to build common goals with other Councillors and Council as a whole. |
