In December 2015, the NSW Government announced its proposal to merge Ashfield Council with Leichhardt and Marrickville Councils.
On 6 January 2016, the Minister for Local Government officially referred 35 merger proposals to the Office of Local Government (OLG) for examination and report under the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW).
The Chief Executive of the OLG then delegated the examination of merger proposals to a number of persons (Delegates). The Delegates will assess the proposals in accordance with the provisions of the Act. For more information about this process and the Delegates, visit: www.councilboundaryreview.nsw.gov.au
For our community, this is the last chance for residents and ratepayers to have their say. The public consultation process, known as the Public Inquiry, is currently under way.
Written submissions closed 5pm Sunday 28 February 2016.
A Public Hearing was held on Tuesday 2 February. Members of the public were required to register to attend and/or speak. For more information, visit the Merger Proposal website.
