Local Government Elections 2012
Local Government elections take place every four years with the next election to be held on Saturday, 8 September 2012. Residents are reminded to check they are registered to vote. Information about registering or changing an address are available from the Australian Electoral Commission.
Important dates for potential candidates are listed below.
Candidate nominations open: 30 July
Close of nominations: 8 August
Pre-poll voting opens: 27 August
Postal vote applications close: 3 September
Pre-poll voting closes: 7 September
Election Day: Saturday 8 September
Becoming a Councillor
Councillors play an important role in overseeing the functions and services of a council.
The Local Government Association of NSW and the Shires Association of NSW in conjunction with the Department of Local Government as a guide to becoming a councillor in New South Wales.
