Each year Council presents the Carnival of Cultures to the community to celebrate Ashfield Local Government Area and Harmony Day.
In 2015, Carnival of Cultures was held on Sunday March 22 in the usual location of beautiful Ashfield Park. Although the day started off with some rain the event attracted thousands of people who stayed to enjoy what turned out to be a sunny afternoon. People enjoyed a full and varied program headlined by Emma Donovan & the Putbacks, King Tide and MC Linda Jaivin. The kids enjoyed the giant slide, jumping castles, and wildlife displays, while green thumbs enjoyed the tree giveaway for local residents, the composting workshops, and performances by the King and Queen of Green. For the sporty ones there was plenty of table tennis, AFL and soccer games, while art lovers spent the day sketching under the tree or contributing to the paper prayer art installation. There was a full range of food stalls providing food from around the world, community information stalls from local community groups and commercial stalls from local businesses. With entertainment across the park, Carnival of Cultures was a day with something for everyone.
Ashfield Council thanks the generous support of sponsors Wests Ashfield Leagues club, Ashfield Mall, Jax Tyres, Medibank Burwood and all the Media and Supply Partners.
