 Cartridge Recycling

Ashfield Council is encouraging all residents to recycle their used cartridges through the ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ program. In the past year, 3.3 tonnes of printer cartridges per day were diverted from landfill through ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ and since the program began in 2003, over 24 million cartridges have been recycled!

As well as toner powder, printer cartridges contain other valuable materials such as steel, aluminium, copper, ink, plastics, rubber, silica and foam, much of which can be recycled. These recycled materials can be turned into pens, rulers, chemical spill clean up kits, and in eWood™ applications such as park benches, fencing and signs. 

Printer cartridges can be dropped off for recycling in special collection boxes located at all Officeworks and JB HiFi stores, and at participating Australia Post, Harvey Norman, Dick Smith, The Good Guys and Office National outlets. Local businesses may also be eligible to receive a free collection box.
