On Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10am to 11am a fitness class is held at Yeo Park. The classes cater for all levels of fitness and suits mothers who want to get fit. The outdoors class has proven to be very popular with varied routines for each session. As the program is held in a beautiful outdoors setting, women with young babies have been taking their babies and young children along with them.
'Only this week I was feeling the pits and today, having been to the class this morning, I feel great. .......... Also, not only do I get to exercise in an environment that is understanding of having a baby (including having my bub with me so I can attend to her needs) I also get to talk to other mothers and get advice.'
'If everything else falls apart during the week, I have allocated time for the group as time for myself. It's something to which I look very much forward.'
One of the benefits of the program is that it is subsidised by Ashfield Council so that it is affordable to participants. The cost to attend each session is $7. For more information Nick on 0433 712 611 or Anthia 9716 1866.
Ashfield Council has sponsored Tai Chi in the Park since October 2002. Each Wednesday (except public and school holidays) people meet at 10am in the Ashfield Park to practise the gentle movements of Tai Chi. Participants are guided by an accredited teacher through the graceful movements of this ancient Chinese exercise. The health benefits of practising Tai Chi are well documented and the practice is now seen as a valuable component of falls prevention programs. Because the movements are gentle, people of all ages, abilities and levels of fitness can take part. One of the special benefits of this program, is that participants have the opportunity to enjoy an activity outdoors surrounded by trees and open space. There is no charge to attend. Participants should wear comfortable loose clothing, shoes suitable for exercise, a hat, sun-screen and bring a bottle of water.
