Unwanted and out of date medicines can be returned to any pharmacy for correct disposal.
Out of date prescribed goods can be a potential hazard for children and adults when "shared" amongst family members, or when stored in an area accessible by children. In Australia, 50 children are admitted to hospital every week as a result of poisoning involving consumption of medicines not intended for them.
More than 200 tonnes of out of date and unwanted medicines are inappropriately disposed of (in household garbage and down toilets and sinks) across Australia. These inappropriately disposed of medicines become a significant and serious contributor to environmental issues such as water quality and contaminated land.
By returning out-of-date and unwanted medicines to your local pharmacy, we can make our homes a safer place.
