Background
Council previously wrote to residents and property owners in the Summer Hill, Ashfield North, Croydon and Ashfield South Precincts, to let them know about a heritage review of these areas. The recommendations in these precinct studies were deferred by the State Government but will be included in the new Draft Principal Local Environmental Plan for Ashfield to be completed during 2009.

15 John Street Proposed Heritage Item This is one of a fine pair of Victorian Italianate/Filigree houses which make an effective contribution to the streetscape despite some modification. Buildings of this period are now comparatively rare. They are associated with a prominent and influential citizen of Ashfield and demonstrate the prosperous period of speculative residential building, which preceded the great depression of 1893. |
