School and Group Visits

Visits to the Library

Visits to libraries can be arranged for:

  • Schools
  • Nurseries
  • Playgroups
  • Family Learning Groups
  • Out of school groups such as Brownies, Scouts or after-school clubs

During your visit we will:

  • Introduce children to the library service
  • Encourage children to join and use the library
  • Introduce children to books and encourage them to read
  • Inform children about events and activities in libraries
  • Ask the children about their reading and information preferences and needs

A storytime may be included, if appropriate.  We do not tailor visits specifically to the school curriculum.

Prior booking of visits is required; all requests will be considered but we cannot guarantee a visit at a particular time.

Teachers or group organisers should contact the Children's and Youth Services Librarian on 02 9716 1827

Visits to Centres

Ashfield Library Service is delighted to offer free storytime visits to preschools, childcare centres and playgroups within the Ashfield LGA, in doing so we hope to provide a fun and educational experience for everyone.

Library visits will entail a 30 minute session of stories, songs and rhymes. The Library constructs a preschool rooster of interested centres in January. Visits are on the following conditions:

Children are to be supervised and carers present during the library storytime visits. Library staff are happy to work with children but they are not trained childcare professionals.

  • 1 week's notice is required for cancellations of bookings. If you need to cancel a scheduled booking please contact Kathy Kalaizis or Emma Suyasa on 9716 1827.
  • Have children prepared for the scheduled time slot.
  • The children's behaviour is the responsibility of the carers during story time

If you would like to receive library visits to your centre please contact the Children's and Youth Services Librarian 02 9716 1827 for inclusion in the next year's roster.
