Over two years ago, the Sport-a-Month program was tried out in the Bankstown Council area. The program aimed to increase community involvement in local sports clubs.
In response to the success of the Bankstown program, Sport & Recreation has entered into a partnership with Ashfield & Burwood Councils to implement the program across both of the Local
Government Areas.
Each month of the year is dedicated to a particular sport. For example, in the Ashfield & Burwood areas, February is tennis, March is martial arts and so on. During each month participating clubs will hold free 'come and try' sessions for local residents. These sessions will be run by club coaches and at the club home ground or facility.
The 'come and try' sessions will be free. Participants will be able to try out the sport at one or all of the clubs that are part of the 'Sport-a-Month' program.
