Ashfield Heritage Review Proposed Heritage Item “Avondale” - 32 Chandos Street Ashfield

Background

Council recently commissioned a heritage study of a town house complex, ‘Avondale' at 32 Chandos Street Ashfield , following preliminary advice that the property had heritage significance. The ‘Avondale' heritage study, prepared by an expert heritage consultant, recommends that this property be identified as a future heritage item.

Please take some time to read our heritage brochure which answers some frequently asked questions about heritage listing. Proposed Draft heritage listings for other parts of the locality can be viewed here. You can also view existing heritage listings for Ashfield (alphabetically arranged).

Have your say!

Council values community feedback. If Council ultimately endorses the consultant study recommendations, ‘Avondale' would be included as a proposed heritage item in a new Principal Draft Ashfield Local Environmental Plan (LEP) to be progressed during 2008-2009.

The Draft LEP will be extensively publicised.

A hard copy of the ‘Avondale' heritage study is currently on public exhibition at Council's Liverpool Road Customer Service Centre open 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and at the Ashfield Library during library opening hours. .

Written submissions including contact details should be forwarded to the General Manager, Ashfield Council by 12 September 2008 .

Planning the future of Ashfield

Ashfield Council has produced a new look Management Plan that outlines the organisation's key result areas, strategies and initiatives for 2008 – 2012.

The Plan is reader friendly and based on the Council's Key Result Areas, including Community, Natural Environment, Sport and Recreation, Transport and Accessibility and Housing.

The draft Management Plan outlines the key services, projects and activities over the next period while maintaining a balanced budgeting framework. Council has placed a particular emphasis on working together to determine how the various initiatives included in the plan can be integrated. In keeping with the Department of Local Government's new policy direction, the draft Management Plan has forecast our work program over a four year period, rather than an annual cycle, which allows Council to plan over the medium term.”

The draft Plan highlights Council's current strategic priorities, including commitments made in other plans, such as the Social Plan and the State of Environment Report .

It also informs the community of Council's key performance indicators and the tools used to measure our performance.

Key initiatives for 2008 include:

  $12.3 million Civic Centre Redevelopment

•  New Local Environmental Plan

•  Implementation of Ashfield Town Centre Town Planning Strategy
